Thalang
National Museum is located about 200 meters from the Monument of Two Heroines on the Pa
Klok Rd. T.Srisoonthorn A.Thalang Phuket. Thalang
National Musem is the museum of Phuket province that
established in 1985 to commemorate the 200th anniversary
of the Battle at Tahalang, the history in which the
story of Two Heroines became widely known.
The museum was formed by
Phuket People with the cooperation of the Fine Arts Department
as a place to honor the Thalang's Two Heroines, and a
repository of historical. Archaeological and cultural
heritage of Phuket and its surrounding area along the
Andaman Sea.

It was inaugurated
on March 14, 1989 by H.R.H Princess Sirindhorn and continues
its role in preserving the Andaman's cultural heritage,
providing education program for local and foreign visitors
since then. Today Thalang National Museum is also one
of the cultural attractions of Phuket.
Museum Exhibition
With five permanent exhibition
galleries, oe changing gallery, and the outdoor exhibition
of Sea Gypsy Village, Thalang National Museum is a place
where visitors will enjoy learning Phuket history, culture
and the islanders' way of life.
Main Hall:
Thaland " an introduction
The exhibition in this hall
introduces visitor to the historical background of Thailand
from early prehistoric time to the present day of Bangkok
Era. The most outstanding artifact exhibited here is a 2.35
meter high Vishnu and his attendants from Phang-Nga. The
statues are evidence of Hindu belief and connection with
India in ancient day of peninsula Thailand.
Gallery 1: Phuket Island and
Early inhabitant of the Andaman
The gallery starts with a model
of Phuket Island and information of its formation, rocks,
minerals and water resources. Then visitors are welcome
to a mini-theater where a film Phuket : A Pearl of the Andaman
Sea is played. The film will give visitors and idea of how
Phuket had passed its glorious time of Tin Mining town to
today famous tourist destination.Before leaving the gallery,
visitors will enjoy exhibit of artifacts found along the
Andaman Sea i.e. pottery, stone tools, bronze drum, beads
and Buddhist objects etc. Illustrations of old map of Phuket
as once known as Junkceylon are also showed here.
Gallery 2: The Battle of Thalang
In this gallery, visitors will
find life-size dioramas of the important scene of the Battle
at Thalang. The history of Two Heroines who protected Thalang,
the former center of Phuket island, from Burmese invasion
about 200 years ago. Along with the dioramas, ancient weapons
are also displayed. Visitor can imagine the use of these
fighting tools in the old day war time.
Gallery 3: The Chinese and Development
of Phuket
Visitors will find themselves
walking through Phuket's Sino Portuguese style shophouses
of money changer office and coffeeshop. These houses and
illustrations in the gallery conveying Phuket's glorious
time of Tin Mining Industry. Old household items, photographs
andlocal costumes displayed here will give visitors an idea
of how Chinese traditions have been followed by Phuket people.
Gallery 4: Phuket's People
Apart from the Chinese, there
are also other ethnic groups live in Phuket Island. In this
gallery, visitors will find exhibits of Muslims, Local Thais
and Sea Gypsies Life-size diorama of the Sea Gypsy's boat
ceremony in the most popular part of this gallery. |
Changing Gallery
This gallery is the space
where museum provides different ideas of national and
local cultural context through exhibitions and activities
organized in the Cultural Conservation Day and the Thai
Museum day as well as other special occasions.
Outdoor Exhibitions of Sea
Gypsy's Village
A group of simple-built
houses of Sea Gypsy within the museum permise attracts
visitors who curious about their living style. The houses,
boat, and fishing tools used by SeaGypsy dislayed along
with old photograph help visitors understand how thery
are called Sea Gypsy.

Located within the museum
administration office. It has books, journals and periodicals
on history and culture of both local and national area.
