Saphan Hin
Located at the East of Phuket Island, Saphan Hin is one of the attractions in Phuket town where the main road meets the sea. The outstanding Tin Mining Monument is familiarly seen often on the Phuket travel information websites.
This monument was built to commemorate to the Australian Captain Edward Miles who brought the first tin dredge to Phuket in 1907. It was built on 1969 to remind the 60 years of dredging in Phuket and shows the importance of tin mining, even comparatively recently played in the island's fortunes. A prolonged recession in the price of tin has however, resulted in the virtual extinguishing of the industry on the island, and except for the continued operation of a single refinery, all other tin mining activity in Phuket has ceased.
In the past Saphan Hin was Phuket land reclamation project provided abundant new land which is now used for public facilities including the fairs and festivals all years round with the large filed. The atmosphere here is very fresh and health can be rebooted with the casuarinas shady jogging trek along the beach. The sport complex  by Phuket Municipality includes the gymnasiums, fitness center, swimming pools, tennis courts, football field and even the children playground.
Relaxation and picnic are the other enjoyable activities for the locals especially in the evening. Mangrove walkway is another trail that shouldn't be missed. Fresh market is also available and many restaurants and food strolls can be found around Saphan Hin area.
