Kata
beach is located 17 kms. south ofPhuket
town. It is composed of two bays, Kata Yai (Big Kata) and
Kata Noi (Small Kata). Both beaches are blessed with impressively
long, relatively peaceful, sandy beaches.
Kata Yai is 2 kms long with fine
white sand which gently slopes away into the blue water of
the Andaman Sea. |

| The beach itself has the comfortable
footpath shaded with palm trees for the pleasant stroll. There
are the vendors ready to serve you with drinks, food, souvenirs
and massage service.

Kata Noi is a much smaller bay only
10 minutes walking distance from Kata Yai beach. There
are the lush green jungle covered the mountains surrounded
the beach. This area is mostly dominated by the Katathani
Hotel. Also there are a few restaurants and tailors. |

Kata beach, you can find the small-village like atmosphere
where you can enjoy swimming, sailing, windsurfing, sunbathing
and even scuba diving at the coral reef of Pu Island
(the small uninhabited island located off Laem Sai).
The most lively area is at Kata Center which is at the
northern end close to Karon beach. Southern part of Kata
also has several resorts for the tourists. |

those who prefer to be a little more adventurous than lying
around in the sun all day, the beach offers jet skiing, parasailng,
banana rides, water skiing and long tail boat excursions,
also diving packages are available with many tour operators
around. |

Nightlife
at Kata beach is not colorful like at Patong beach but
here is a pleasant place to stroll around in the evening. The
bar scene here is fairly low key and informal. Many places
have pool tables and television which make them ideal
for adults and children alike but that's not to say there
is a shortage of places to sit, relax and drink.
